WHAT WE DO

Human resources is about people.

The Human Resources (HR) Department develops policies, tools and services for the recruitment, compensation, training and talent management of staff, in order to enable the sustained growth of the ICRC. Its policies are geared towards raising professional standards, developing the particular skills required for humanitarian work and supporting the management and empowerment of a diverse and inclusive workforce at all hierarchical levels.

The HR Department comprises the following divisions and centres of expertise:

  • Global talent management

Guided by global best practices, the division designs and delivers talent solutions in the areas of talent acquisition and sourcing, career development, people analytics, diversity and inclusion, and partnerships with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, thus contributing to fulfilling the ICRC’s mission and implementing its strategic priorities.

  • HR operations

The main purpose of the division is to support managers at all levels in managing staff, whether at headquarters or in the field. This means dealing with everyday staff issues as well as developing human resources that match long-term operational strategy and current or future needs in cooperation with the different stakeholders.

  • Learning and development

The division contributes to the ICRC’s operations by offering an organization-wide learning and development path, which equips staff members to effectively and efficiently take on their present and future roles. In addition to supporting staff in their professional development through the iDevelop budget, the division organizes a wide range of learning events that provide tailor-made solutions to specific individual and collective needs.

  • HR services

The main purpose of the division is to guarantee that administrative matters are appropriately taken care of for employees. It works on topics such as travel, flights, wages, contracts, income tax and work certificates.

  • Compensation and benefits

This centre of expertise is responsible, in partnership with other HR divisions and the lCRC leadership team, for planning, building and implementing a global and integrated rewards strategy that enables the ICRC to attract, motivate and retain staff members across geographies and functions. This includes leading the design, development, implementation, analysis and monitoring of compensation and benefits initiatives within a holistic and cost-effective framework that aligns with and supports the mission and values of the ICRC.

  • HR management framework and compliance

This centre of expertise provides HR service providers at headquarters and in the field with a clear framework for developing and maintaining HR reference documents.
