Cooperation with the movement

We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

As the largest humanitarian network in the world, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement works collectively to alleviate human suffering and promote humanitarian values.

Build and maintain strategic partnerships

We act as the focal point for relations with Movement partners in delegations worldwide. By developing and nurturing partnerships with National Societies, we ensure a unified, coherent and effective humanitarian response to the needs of people affected by armed conflict and violence.

Support and strengthen local capacities

We build sustainable partnerships and provide capacity-strengthening support when needed. This reinforces local humanitarian responses and fosters stronger, more autonomous National Societies.

Facilitate and coordinate cooperation within the Movement

We promote cooperation among Movement partners in line with ICRC and Movement policies, acting as lead agency for international activities when appropriate. We also manage cooperation programmes, ensuring alignment with shared objectives and operational needs.

Embed Movement cooperation across the organization

We mainstream Movement cooperation into ICRC strategies and processes, ensuring that Movement dynamics are integrated into daily operations and decision-making.

Lead and represent

We lead teams responsible for Movement cooperation by providing effective coordination, supervision and team development. We also represent the ICRC in external and Movement fora, promoting our approach, upholding our positions and strengthening our credibility, visibility and influence.
