What we do


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.



The CIM Department leads developments and implementation of the organization’s communication/public positioning and information environment strategies. During a time of institutional and departmental evolutions, the CIM Department is piloting the project Navigation team. Its main priority is to maintain the direction of travel and coordinating the implementation of the vision of the ICRC as a best-in-class technology center and communications hub.


The CIM Engagement and Events Project Coordinator position is a key member of the CIM Navigation team and reports to the Director of Communication and Information Management.  S/He will have an important role in sharing and supporting the implementation of the vision. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude about ‘new ways of working’ and how culture can positively impact our humanitarian mission. S/He should enjoy the opportunity to work closely with CIM senior leadership team (CIM Director, CIM Deputy Director, Chief Information Officer, Head of CIM Employee Experience and the office of the director) while managing engagement opportunities (events, communication, missions) of the department in a project tracking cycle.


The CIM Engagement and Events Project Coordinator helps to evaluate options and designing, executing and monitoring solutions to ensure that projects meet the department’s needs while ensuring integration into existing processes and systems. Candidates for this position should have proven experience in the delivery of engagement planning within the media or tech industries or organizations or companies with a similar scale of complexity. S/he should also be willing to roll up their sleeves in helping to create and support consistent rules, rhythms and routines to aid faster peer learning and information exchanges, including via town halls, staff briefings, communication via digital platforms, and engagement with and input from the field/our operations and legal colleagues (who are our primary ‘customers’). Research, report writing, and a cadence of regular communication with the department and the organization writ large during a period of transformation will be core elements to this role. 


This is a 2 years projects and will impact the CIM department as a whole. Budget management will be handled in collaboration with the CIM Change Coordinator.

Main duties and responsibilities


  • Develops and maintain an overview of global transformation projects within the department, driving the uptake of new systems and behaviors via inter-project communications. Demonstrate consistently the ability to impact internal culture in a complex global organization.
  • Supports the implementation of planned changes, improving coordination among different change initiatives.
  • As an excellent writer, distill and interpret large amounts of information, including on technical topics, for diverse audiences. Draft and manage stakeholder communication channels on a variety of platforms and engage with external agencies, academic institutions, and the like as needed.
  • Conduct research and advise on best practices and trends on a range of topics in the fields of communications and technology and condense that research into strategic counsel and recommendations for the senior leadership.
  • Drive process improvement to create efficiencies and department effectiveness for the business.
  • Track departmental projects to ensure regular cadence of engagement for the senior leadership team with stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Work closely with CIM Navigation Coordinator and the full Navigation team for their work on calendars, missions, budgets, staff changes, and contracts.
  • Coordinate closely with the CIM Employee Experience team, including on labs, conferences, and other events hosted by the CIM senior leadership team.

  • May have a global remit in cases where the project requires an integrated global approach, deployment or implementation. This might include visits to and assessments on the site where the project is being run or delivered.
Education and experience required


  • Extensive experience and knowledge of the ICRC
  • Confirmed and proven successful experience in a similar role within the ICRC
  • Sound knowledge and confirmed experience of ICRC processes
  • Proven successful events and project management experience
  • Strong business acumen and organizational savviness
  • Excellent (native) level of English required, and French appreciated.
