What we do

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

 

The Campaigns Manager sits within the Cross-Media team at HQ in Geneva. The team delivers global campaigns and integrated media and content strategies to support ICRC’s positioning, fundraising and influencing objectives. We offer expertise, services and advice for storytelling across the organization at field and headquarters.

The Campaigns Manager is responsible for developing and executing content and engagement strategies to advance ICRC’s positioning and influence objectives on key thematic and programmatic areas of work. This role is expected to act in an autonomous and proactive manner developing and project-managing partnerships and new campaigns opportunities that reach and cultivate new and engaged audience groups, including in support of fundraising and advocacy goals. They act as focal point and liaison on assigned themes and programs.

Main duties & responsibilities

 

  • Creates and implements public communications narratives and strategies, developing and project-managing content and campaign plans and coordinating production for assigned themes or topics. Works closely with ICRC colleagues to explore develop innovative communication projects and ideas, testing feasibility for implementation;
  • Works with external partners and agencies to develop and test innovative communication projects, from innovative storytelling and creative content, to campaigns which aim at using non-traditional communication means such as gaming, VR/AR, data visualization and digital platforms to inform new audiences about ICRC;
  • Drives coverage in media outlets through campaigns and projects highlighting the work and mandate of ICRC. Develops media plans and outreach, including story pitches, and engages with key media to develop longer-term content partnerships (either directly or with global reach delegations);
  • Defines audience groups and specific engagement strategies for each using tools including Sprinklr and global web index;
  • Coordinates production of campaigns content, identifying and planning for key editorial moments relevant to the assigned theme and programmatic area of work;
  • Work with other communications teams to evaluate impact and audience engagement, adjusting approaches accordingly;
  • Works with external agencies to develop specialised products and campaigns approaches, managing assigned budget under supervision of Line Manager;
  • Supports as needed the global media management of media driven crises and other team priorities.

Education required

 

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing/communication or relevant subject;
  • Master's in marketing and/or communication an asset;
  • Excellent level of English and good command of French; other relevant languages an asset;
  • Training/certification in project management and coordination an asset.

Experience required

 

  • At least 8 years' professional experience in a similar field;
  • Deep understanding of branding/communication campaign practices and tools;
  • Knowledge of and experience in conducting targeted research to identify communication opportunities;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Understanding of audiovisual, online and print production processes;
  • Experience in communication/advertising agency an asset.
