Purpose of the position

 

Reporting to the CIO, this will be a broad strategic role, to lead the key strategic initiatives defining how ICT technology and processes will be applied to ensure that Technology and Information (T&I) has the right building blocks in place to ensure we can deliver on our Technology and Information vision.

The role is accountable for the delivery of the current strategic initiatives and performing a regular assessment of the progress. Also, the role will deliver an annual strategy review, which identifies how we can deliver customer- centricity, identification of new strategic initiatives and identification of cost savings. For this role to be successful, rapid implementation of modern IT “best practices” is required.

The ICT Strategic Adviser will be a member of the IT Leadership Team (ITLT) and responsible for the execution of the Group IT strategy and development of the T&I division. As a member of the ITLT, you will play a major role in encouraging an inclusive, positive and productive culture and working climate.

General duties

 

· Understands and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

· Understands and upholds to the ICRC Code of Conduct

· Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

· Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules regularly

· Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times

· Develops and maintains a cheerful and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers

· Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC

· May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when required

Main duties and responsibilities

 

· Align the delivery of the strategic initiatives with modern IT best practices

· Deliver the current strategic projects

· Apply your knowledge of best practices to craft the overall strategy

· Work with each project manager of the initiatives to ensure that the scope and project plans are accurately defined, enabling us to meet our communicated commitments.

· Negotiate, handle and maintain relationships with technology partners to ensure that each meet or exceeds contractual obligations

· Consolidate the business streams 18-24-month roadmaps to deliver an IT Roadmap

· Work with the ITLT to perform an annual IT strategy review to update and adapt the IT plan

· Actively participate in IT Leadership Team and support the CIO in crafting the necessary strategy and culture to deliver the business plan.

· Demonstrate curiosity and thought leadership by maintaining knowledge of evolving trends in technology & management

· You will define and implement metrics to measure progress against strategic objectives

Experience required

 

· A detailed understanding of all IT functions including; Architecture, Project and Change Delivery, Service Delivery, Operations and Infrastructure

· A detailed understanding of best practices within a large professional IT team.

· Hands-on experience with handling at least one of the major IT functions

· A high degree of financial literacy, able to bring data and insight in this capacity, to the ITLT.

· Experience of step-changing a governance process to enable greater efficiency and improved customer service in a technology (or other service delivery) function in a business
