What we do

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Context

 

The Logistics Strategy 2019-2022 aims at achieving Organizational excellence in the Logistics Division of the ICRC. In this context, the Logistics Division wants to deploy lean management methodology in HQ and the field, to foster continuous improvement

Purpose

 

The Lean deployment coordinator ensures the deployment and implementation of Lean management methodology in the Logistics division (HQ and field).

He/she is responsible for establishing a culture of continuous improvement and efficient decision making in the Logistics division, by developing and deploying best practice tools, methods and processes that reduce waste, promote data-driven decision making, and robust problem solving.
He/she will act as trainer and coach for migration to a continuous improvement culture based on Lean management principles. This resource must serve as the Subject Matter Expert in problem solving techniques and process evaluation and remain abreast of new technologies and techniques that may be used to address identified issues.

Accountabilities & responsibilities

 

Coaches teams, managers and members through the process of implementing management routines at every level of the division, HQ and field.

Through management routines, leads, defines and develops continuous improvement activities that are designed to support key facility initiatives and drive results.

Supports the implementation of visual management.

Facilitates problem solving to root cause elimination and permanent reduction of variance.

Leads complex analysis to determine process improvement opportunities, evaluates alternatives and prioritize redesign efforts.

Formulates strategic improvement hypotheses within the A3 Thinking process.

Facilitates Problem Solving by leveraging/modeling the DMAIC process.

Trains managers to facilitate Kaizen events across the division

Designs and develop toolkits and processes to help leaders better manage their business.

Partners and coachs process SME’s and BPOs to identify areas of opportunities, and develop new process

Challenges stakeholders to maximize opportunities from process improvement initiatives.

Designs & deploys effective change management techniques to influence, train and guide operational teams

Core proficiencies & skills

 

Proven track record in the implementation of Operational Excellence, Lean principals, Proficient applying DMAIC or PDCA continuous improvement methodologies.

Skilled in facilitation of Problem solving including 8D, FMEA, Kaizen, Lean tools

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong coaching, mentoring skills

Project management certification a must.

Prosci practitioner certification an asset

Certifications / Education required

 

Master Degree in Business, Engineering or related field; or equivalent in experience and training

Lean Practitioner or equivalent certification

Proficiency in English and French

Professional Experience required

 

Minimum of five years related experience deploying Lean methodologies.

Demonstrated leadership of Kaizen events

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to lead and develop a diverse team of people.

Passion for driving business improvement and leading change in a dynamic, fast paced, low volume setting

Proven track record for developing, training, and coaching employees in a continuous improvement environment

Experience in change management a strong asset
