What we do


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position


The Nutritionist is the focal point for global policies, guidelines and training modules for the Economic Security (EcoSec) Unit's nutrition programme. The ICRC nutritionist is responsible for advising and supporting EcoSec teams to develop nutrition-sensitive approaches in EcoSec programs, integrated into the various stages of the project cycle.

Main duties and responsibilities


  • Carries out short-term support assignments to delegations that temporarily require their expertise; conducts assessments and shares their expertise in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating nutrition programmes.
  • Keeps abreast of and reports on global and regional trends in nutrition programming.
  • Supervises the production of global guidelines for EcoSec nutrition programmes with support from team.
  • Coordinates the design and delivery of EcoSec nutrition-programme workshops and training modules.
  • Provides technical supervision to one team member.
  • Represents the ICRC to technical authorities and organizations whose work relates to the EcoSec nutrition programme.
Education required


  • Masters degree in nutrition or public health, or equivalent work experience.
  • Very good command of English and good understanding of French.
  • Computer proficiency.
Professional Experience required


  • 12-15 years´ overall professional experience.
  • 5-7 years' experience in a similar field, ICRC experience an asset.
