Who we are and what we do

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

 

To ensure predictable funding for its interventions, the ICRC has set itself the goal to diversify its resource mobilization portfolio and further explore means of growth in global markets. Against this backdrop, the Foresight team plays an advisor and incubator role and oversees activities such as:

 

  • analyzing data, assessing trends and providing expertise to regional market teams and other internal stakeholders
  • identifying priority opportunities and facilitating interaction with audiences of interest
  • testing novel initiatives and developing collaborative models in view of strengthening coordination and cooperation within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • enhancing service quality by strengthening systems and processes

 

Within this framework, the two post-holders will help develop and implement strategic team objectives and work closely with the Head of Institutional Philanthropy and Head of Corporate Partnerships. 

Assignment

 

As per 1 April 2020 or agreement, the ICRC’s Resource Mobilization Foresight team is offering two one-year traineeship positions to help strengthen its aspirations in the field of Institutional Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships.

General responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate and consolidate input from colleagues within the Foresight team, the Resource Development Division and across the ICRC on specific assessments and questions particularly linked to Institutional Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships.
  • Conduct research and assessments and help prepare briefing notes and presentations.
  • Assist in further developing the team’s theory of change, toolboxes, means of communication, functional processes and related frameworks to professionalize the team’s advisory portfolio.
  • Co-steward selected partnerships and projects managed by the Foresight team and provide assistance to identify, assess, incubate and accelerate new strategic partnerships and signature ventures.
  • Support and coordinate high-level engagement involving the ICRC Senior Management at multi-stakeholder gatherings, high-level events and bilateral meetings.
  • In close cooperation with regional market teams, and as opportunities arise, second initiatives involving the private sector and National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Participate in relevant gatherings where appropriate.
  • Provide ad-hoc administrative support, keep internal information systems up to date and assist with the organisation of meetings and events.
Specific responsibilities

 

Institutional Philanthropy

 

  • Support the Head of Structured Philanthropy in day-to-day desk administration and planning activities to steward key partners and manage lead projects.
  • Help analyse and monitor baselines, benchmarks and trends on global strategic philanthropy and develop actionable road maps in terms of further positioning the ICRC in areas of interest.
  • Contribute to equipping and empowering key stakeholders with necessary skill sets in view of best matching both institutional priorities and market requirements. 

 

Corporate Partnerships

 

  • Support the Head of Corporate Partnerships with further formalising the institutional corporate partnerships approach including guidance on mechanisms to develop corporate partnerships.
  • Analyse global corporate engagement trends including partnership examples for benchmarking and research potential new partners for collaboration and fundraising (cause-related marketing, employee giving, project funding).
  • Take ownership of communications related to corporate partnerships and coordinate the development of material for acquisition and cultivation of new partners (brochures, proposals).
Qualifications

 

We are looking for candidates who meet the following mandatory requirements:
 

  • Master's degree in international relations / affairs, development, business, economics, international law or humanitarian action.
  • Fluent in English and French.
  • Ability to think strategically, to express ideas clearly and to effectively prioritise and manage workload.
  • Sound organizational skills and developed communication, presentation and writing skills.
  • Passion to work in a fast-paced, international working environment and available for 1 year.

 

Eligible candidates should also meet the following criteria:

 

  • Creativity and a capacity to think outside the box and generate ideas and initiatives.
  • Critical thinking and factual, evidence-based argumentation.
  • Client-oriented attitude and ability to interface with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proactive team player with a developed sense for requirements and opportunities.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications and relevant office software.

 

In addition, the following will be considered an asset:

 

  • A demonstrated interest in private sector engagement, relationship management, philanthropy, corporate partnerships and / or related fields.
  • Experience working or volunteering in international or national humanitarian organizations; the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; marketing, communication or business in international contexts.
  • Experience with client-oriented work and external relations, and ability to easily interface with high-level stakeholders.
