Deliver humanitarian action in the field

We are deployed worldwide to bring neutral humanitarian aid directly to people affected by armed conflict and violence. Our presence on the ground ensures that assistance is timely, context-specific and aligned with the needs of the most vulnerable.

Analyse needs and plan response

We assess humanitarian needs, define priorities and plan activities in coordination with specialized teams working in economic security, health and protection, for instance. This real-time analysis keeps our operations relevant and effective.

Build trust and local networks

We develop and maintain relationships with civil society, NGOs, weapon bearers and other local players to secure access and acceptance on the ground. These networks are key to promoting our principles of neutrality and impartiality and to reaching those in need.

Conduct field missions and protection activities

We visit affected communities and detention facilities, monitor conditions and implement protection activities, from restoring family links to documenting violations of humanitarian law. In places of detention, we talk in private with detainees, monitor their conditions of detention and engage with the authorities to ensure that they uphold the detainees’ dignity and legal guarantees.

Report, document and ensure accountability

We produce accurate and timely internal reports that strengthen institutional memory, support strategic oversight and ensure accountability for our actions.

Represent the ICRC and strengthen cooperation

We represent and promote the ICRC’s mandate in complex environments, while also building strong ties with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Society partners. This ensures a coherent humanitarian response across the Movement.

Safeguard staff and operations

We contribute to staff safety and risk management, ensuring that humanitarian action can be delivered securely and consistently, in line with our duty of care and operational principles.
