Interpretation and communication

Facilitate communication in humanitarian operations

We serve as the vital link between ICRC teams and the people we assist. Whether visiting detainees, restoring family links, reuniting families, delivering emergency relief or engaging with combatants on their obligations under the Geneva Conventions, we ensure that communication is accurate, respectful and effective.

Ensure voices are heard

In humanitarian crises, language barriers can mean being overlooked. By interpreting conversations and translating key documents, we make sure that individuals and communities can express their needs, concerns and stories clearly.

Bridge cultural and linguistic gaps

We go beyond words, helping to explain the ICRC’s mandate and methods in a way that resonates with diverse audiences. By fostering understanding across cultures and languages, we build trust between affected communities and the ICRC.

Strengthen protection and assistance

Through precise interpretation, we enable ICRC teams to identify needs, address protection concerns and deliver aid in line with humanitarian principles, thus ensuring that support reaches those who need it, with dignity and respect.
