Context

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC - www.icrc.org) responds to worldwide humanitarian needs through its global network of delegations. The ICRC is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. 

The Resource Mobilization Division (REM) manages the institutional relationship between ICRC and its donors, supporters and partners and mobilises the funding required by the ICRC to carry out its humanitarian activities. In line with the Resource Mobilization Strategy 2020-2030 (RMS), the ICRC seeks to widen and deepen its engagement and the humanitarian funding support it receives from the private sector while promoting the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement’s positioning with private audiences. 
 

Purpose

The Head of Private Sector Engagement ensures the development and achievement of the ICRC’s Resource Mobilisation Strategy objectives and financial targets relevant to private sector donors (individuals, corporates, and foundations). S/he acts as the global business process owner of the private sector fundraising at the ICRC and is responsible for steering and leading the ICRC’s engagement with private sector donors. S/he is accountable for managing the Center of Expertise for Private Sector Engagement with a team that ensures best-in-industry practice and performance, the development of the ICRC’s pool of private sector fundraising experts, as well as the policies, frameworks, systems and processes needed to engage with the private sector. 

 

Relationships

Internally;
•    Interacts with senior leadership to proactively steer strategy and institutional readiness around private sector resource mobilization 
•    Builds strong and effective partnerships with teams within the Resource Mobilisation division and with key stakeholders in other HQ departments.

Externally;
•    Engages and liaises with peers in other international organizations and the Red Cross Red Crecent Movement in relevant multilateral fora and in bilateral relationships to represent the ICRC, influence external positioning and maintain an overview of trends in the sector

 

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

•    Develops and maintains a global overview and analysis of trends, opportunities and risks in the private sector fundraising environment.
•    Leads the development of global fundraising strategies integrating the specificities of the ICRC’s position as a member of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and the ICRC’s funding priorities.
•    Steers the development, implementation, and monitoring of investment cases for mobilizing resources from the private sector, managing and optimizing the global investment portfolio for private sector fundraising.
•    Identifies and articulates to ICRC leadership changes required to improve and develop organizational readiness for Private Sector fundraising. 
•    Defines regional annual and medium-term Private Sector fundraising development priorities and targets.
•    Defines end-to-end ‘donor journeys’ for each donor segment, identifying and developing the corresponding value propositions and engagement requirements, working closely with relevant production teams to ensure delivery.
•    Steers and supports the delivery of policies, tools and procedures.

•    May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary
 

People management responsibilities

•    Manages the Centre of Expertise for Private Sector Engagement including by developing and monitoring workplans; managing the budget; facilitating proper information flows and optimal coordination.
Support the development of staff members’ potential and leads the recruitment of new senior-level Private Sector fundraising staff as required.
•    Understands and supervises the Performance Management & Development (PMD) activities for employees under his/her supervision 
 

Certifications / Education required

•    Master’s degree in management, business administration, marketing or fundraising
•    Excellent command of English and knowledge of French required; other languages an asset.
 

Professional Experience required

•    15+ years professional experience.
•    Senior experience working in a private sector fundraising leadership role
•    Development and implementation of fundraising strategies 
•    experience working in complex, large-scale, matrix organizations.
•    Humanitarian work experience and familiarity with the RCRC movement a strong asset
