What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law.  We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Role Description

The ICRC information communication technology engineer carries out independently large computer and telecommunication infrastructures projects according to ICRC standards, gives technical support and training on ICRC ICT matters in the assigned country-ies.(S)he monitors the situation of ICT installations and, in consultation with the concerned hierarchy, takes appropriate measures to guarantee the proper functioning of the ICT set-up and the respect of ICT policies and procedures. In addition,(s)he installs, maintains, exploits and adapts existing large ICT infrastructure and material independently.(S)he also carries out intermittent tests on ICT equipment, hardware and software networks and other devices in order to ensure their optimal performance and standard configuration. In addition to this,(s)he can manage and lead small ICT Teams.(S)he does or contribute in the ICT national Staff recruitment and training. 

Desired profile and skills


  • higher education degree in Telecommunications or equivalent field
  • ICT management certifications (ITIL, PMP, Prince2) an asset
  • Fluency in English and French
  • three years of professional experience including at least a confirmed experience in management
  • sound knowledge and experience of wave propagation
  • strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • open-minded and adaptable
  • responsable and well-organized
  • strong interest in ICT Operations Management
  • capable of running a team – natural leadership qualities – interest in diversity management
  • able to and interested in training and supervising others
  • excellent ability to work in a team and under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment
Our operational & field constraints


  • In line with the principle of neutrality, the ICRC does not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals
  • Candidates must be in good health and will have to do a medical check-up prior to departure in the field
  • Candidates must possess a driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles)
  • Candidates must be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependents) for at least the first 24 months
