The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 100 countries and has 18,000 staff worldwide. In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. Over 900 team members work across the county in various professional fields.

ABOUT THE JOB

The ICRC Logistics Department seeks a competent Mechanic to join our team in Kharkiv. This role ensures carrying out preventive maintenance and repairs on ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment in accordance with guidelines from headquarters and manufacturers’ recommendations.

Start date: May 2026

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform and oversee all maintenance, including vehicles, generators, and forklifts, ensuring adherence to manufacturer recommendations and operational standards
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance history, service schedules, and repairs for all fleet assets, coordinating with external workshops and ensuring quality control
• Conduct daily/weekly vehicle checks, supervise vehicle preparation for field trips, and ensure compliance with safety and security rules
• Manage inventory and procurement of spare parts, equipment, and tools for fleet maintenance, including raising orders, verifying invoices, and updating stock records
• Manage fuel management systems, ensure vehicles are refueled as required, and complete relevant documentation accurately and promptly
• Operate ICRC vehicles, transport personnel and goods as directed, while ensuring compliance with documentation requirements and safe transport practices

ABOUT YOU

To be successful as Mechanic in the Logistics Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics: 

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• Technical school degree or equivalent experience
• Two years of work experience in a similar position
• Good knowledge (written and spoken) of English
• Professional fluency of Ukrainian and Russian
• Driving license B
• Driving licenses C and CE are an asset
• Very good knowledge of the local area and integration into a professional network
• Computer proficiency
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
