What we do
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose
The Weapon Contamination (WeC) Data and Training Officer help ensure that all department activities and plans are implemented, monitored and evaluated as required, including but not limited to, data collection and data entry, contextual analysis and Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior (RASB) activities. The WeC Data and Training Officer support the training, implementation and monitoring of Movement RASB activities. S/he contributes directly to ensuring staff safety and supporting the capacity strengthening of the Sudanese Red Crescent branches in situations where weapon contamination poses a risk. Under the supervision and technical guidance of the WeC Coordinator, the WeC Data and Training Officer will ensure that WeC activities facilitate and complement other aspects of ICRC (emergency) programs.

Accountabilities & functional responsibilities
- Data Management: including databases and spreadsheets. Assist in populating, managing and updating spreadsheets Collect and compile weapon contamination related information and develop a detailed understanding of the weapon contamination situation in country and provide hazards identification and risk assessments of the likely impact on staff, operations and civilians in affected areas.
- Assist with any other data related to WeC activities or administrative tasks
- Data analysis. Prepare and compile lists and statistics, maps, charts, tools and generate reports for internal and external use
- Assist in implementing RASB activities
- Provide training, mentoring and orientation to the Sudanese Red Crescent (SRCS) and Civil Society on Risk Awareness Safer Behavior (RASB).
- Assists with overseeing and following up RASB activities carried out by the SRCS.
- Help plan, implement and monitor ICRC WeC operations in the Delegation and propose improvements to the way activities are integrated and implemented.
- Contribute to overall security and staff safety and the continuation of ICRC and movement operations in situations where weapon contamination poses a hazard
- Proactively develop and maintain good working relationships with national authorities
- Contribute to reports, the drafting, maintenance and application of RASB related SOPs, guidelines and documents as requested
- Other responsibilities and tasks as directed by the coordinator, or that may gradually be handed over to the WeC FO as part of his/her professional development.

Desired profile and skills
- Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
- Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment
Certifications / Education required
- Academically or professionally proficient in a technical WeC-related subject or pedagogics or project management.
- Knowledge the ICRC/humanitarian work an asset.
- Good knowledge of the geographic area assigned.
- Excellent teaching and presentation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and visualization techniques.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic (translation skills).
- Excellent computer skills, proficient use of Microsoft Excel, and other statistical software.
- Good negotiation and communication skills.
Professional experience required
- At least 3 years overall professional experience
- 2 years' work experience in humanitarian mine action or a similar field preferred
- Experience in Risk Education/Humanitarian Mine Action sector an asset, but not essential
- Knowledge the ICRC/humanitarian work is an asset.
